When OTT-JAKOB Spanntechnik celebrated its 30th anniversary in July 2023, the focus was less on the company itself and more on the people who have been shaping its history for three decades. Around 400 employees from the Lengenwang plant traveled with their families to the Nordic Center in Oberstdorf to spend a special day together - surrounded by the mountain scenery of the Allgäu Alps.
It didn’t start with a schedule, but with a question: Who did we want to reach with this event—and how should the day feel for these people? It quickly became clear that several generations would be coming together - from long-time employees to their children and grandchildren - and that a tightly scheduled stage program wouldn’t feel right for them. This realization led to an open-concept approach that allowed each guest to enjoy a personalized afternoon - rather than a fixed program for everyone.
Following the reception and an opening address to kick off the anniversary celebration, the afternoon was devoted to outdoor activities and exploration. Guests had chosen their favorites in advance from more than 20 program options: hikes to the Fellhorn or through the Breitachklamm Gorge, kayaking trips on the Iller River, a ride on the Allgäu Coaster, or a trip to the ski jump. Those who preferred a more relaxed pace spent their time at Freibergsee or at the nature camp, where archery, nature crafts, and circus arts invited everyone to join in. By the end, many had gotten to know their home region even better.
Back at the Nordic Center, after a welcome address by Frank Jakob and the works council, the grounds were transformed into a festival setting. A children’s show, live music, and a DJ kept the party going into the early hours of the morning, while fire pits, lounges, and a cocktail bar provided space for conversation and those special little moments of the evening.
We were responsible for the entire organization: from managing the approximately 400 guests and their transportation to implementing the supporting program, coordinating all service providers, handling logistics, and providing on-site support. The result was an anniversary celebration that not only chronicled 30 years of company history but also made the sense of unity within the OTT-JAKOB family palpable.
